Teatro Pacini

Il Teatro Comunale, intitolato al maestro Giovanni Pacini, nasce ai primi del Settecento per volontà di alcune famiglie della migliore borghesia, le quali dettero vita ad una accademia detta degli “Affilati” il cui simbolo era una ruota con la spada in atto di affilarsi e il motto “Tanto più nuoce”. Protettrice dell’accademia divenne nientemeno che la Gran Principessa Violante Beatrice di Baviera, cognata del Granduca Giangastone dei Medici. I lavori per la costruzione del nuovo edificio che sarebbe diventato per la sua struttura all’«italiana» il secondo in ordine di tempo dopo La Pergola di Firenze, iniziarono nel 1717, mentre a causa di una serie di gravi contrattempi aprirà i battenti ufficialmente solo nel 1728. Oltre alla platea, il Teatro conta cinque ordini di palchi per un totale di circa 450 posti a sedere.
The Municipal Theatre (Teatro Pacini), which was named after the composer Giovanni Pacini, was founded in the early 18th century by the will of some families belonging to the upper middle class, who started an academy called the “Affilati”, the symbol of which was a wheel with a sword being sharpened and the motto “Tanto più nuoce” (The more it hurts). The Protector of the academy was none other than the Grand Princess Violante Beatrice of Bavaria, sister-in-law of the Grand Duke Giangastone dei Medici. Construction works of the new building, which would become the “Italian” structure and the second in order of time after La Pergola in Florence, began in 1717 but due to a series of serious setbacks, it will officially open its doors only in 1728.
In addition to the stalls, the Theatre has five tiers of boxes for a total of about 450 seats.
